Cleveland, You Can’t be Serious…

There’s an old adage that’s popular amongst NBA front office people in reference to overpaying a player and messing up the “market” it goes “All it takes is one asshole”. Cleveland just has to be those assholes, but I guess its fitting for how shitty their decision making has been ALBJ (After LeBron).

According to reports The Cavs plan to give Utah wing Gordon Hayward a max deal worth 63 million over 4 years, that’s about 15 mil per.

Even M.C. Hammer thinks that’s a waste of money.

Don’t get me wrong I believe that Hayward is a nice player, actually he is better than you think. He is a guy that last year put up 16-5-5 and at 6’9” 220 he is probably a bigger dude than you realize. Hayward has the potential to one day be the third banana on a championship caliber team. His efficient ability to score  and above average skill at passing the ball make him a valuable asset and as a 6’9” SG his defense while not particularly good is serviceable enough not to be a detriment to his team.

Of course when I say the “One Day” he will be able to be a #3 on a contender, I caution that today is not that day.

Before the free agency period I predicted that Hayward should be paid about 11 million per year on a 4 year deal, but also noting that with his Restricted Free Agent status the team that gets him would probably end up over paying for his services.

63 million for Gordon Hayward isn’t overpaying, that’s lunacy.

With so many teams having the ability to carve out 10 million or more in cap space- about 15- these are the types of offers that we are going to see all summer. It wasn’t a matter of if but more so when, would some team step to the plate and pony up the big underserved bucks to a player and ruin the market for the entire league.

Thanks, Assholes. – Glass¤

  1. Well were is my stray jacket because I commend the Cavs for this move which means Cleveland just became contenders. Irving, Hayward, Wiggins, dare I say Bennett, and Varejoa for 15 games and a good defensive thwarter Tyler Zeller. The Cavs can do some things. Luol Deng maybe apart of the equation but depending on if the Bulls get Melo he is looking to head back to Chicago or probably go elsewhere. It be nice if they kept Waiters to be that 6th man but I doubt he’ll stay. I think its a great move and he’s worth the dollars. Im glad Utah didnt undercut his value playing on such a shitty team.

  2. Irving? Hayward? Rookie wiggins? You are aware you just named a 10 seed in the east right? The Hawks were the 8 seed while missing their best player ( horford) and their 6th man ( John Jenkins ) …. Cleveland gets more stable with Gordon, but not better

    1. The CAVS ARE MAKING THE PLAYOFFS NOW! I WILL CEMENT THAT PREDICTION AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE SUMMER LEAGUE AND AT THE BEGINNING OF TRAINING CAMP WHEN THE ROSTER IS MORE FINAL
