After a failed season in 2013, Tampa Bay has revamped their uniforms and upgraded their roster. New coach, new coordinator, and let’s not forget the return of the Muscle Hamster, the New look Buccs should be a force in the NFC south. Hey Falcons fans, Don’t sleep on Tampa…dont you dare sleep The Buccaneers have received mixed reviews since unveiling new uniforms earlier this year. The jersey numbers are now reminiscent of the digits you would see on a calculator and the logo on the helmet has been enlarged. The overall color scheme is basically the same, but it’s going to take a lot more than new threads to turn things around at Raymond James stadium. So all fashion advice aside let’s take a look at the new Tampa Bay.
The Head Coach: Lovie Smith has made a name for himself in Chicago by spearheading one of the best defenses in the NFL over the past decade. Unfortunately his tenure was cut short mainly due to the lack of creativity on the offensive side of the football. Lovie Smith may not be Vince Lombardi but he does have that “nice guy/Tony Dungy” type of personality that NFL players seem to love. All in all he is a big upgrade over Greg Shiano and that alone will make the Buccaneers a much better team in 2014.
The Qb Battle: Josh Freeman is gone, but the Buccs still have a QB battle brewing between Josh McCown and Mike Glennon. Both these players scream mediocrity, but considering Lovie Smith started Rex Grossman in a superbowl, mediocrity might not be a deal breaker. ‘Glennon vs McCown’ is like boring vs snoring, I’m yawning just thinking about it, we haven’t seen a fight this bad since Jimmy vs Timmy in season 5 of South Park.
The Defense: Injuries are the ultimate equalizer in sports, but if the Buccaneers can stay healthy they should have one of the best defensive units in the NFL this season. Former Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier is the new Defensive Coordinator, he and Lovie Smith will have an amazing assortment of Pro-Bowl talent to play with.
Gerald McCoy: 2010’s 3rd overall pick is a back to back Pro-Bowler(2012-2013)….He had 9 sacks as a Defensive Tackle last year…..NINE SACKS AS A DT!!!!!.
Lavonte David: 9 sacks and 6 picks in 2013…. Need I say more
Michael Johnson: 6’7″, 270lbs, runs a 4:69 (40time) and has collected 15 sacks over his last two seasons in Cincinnati. #Beast
Alturren Verner: 11 INT’s and almost 300 tackles last year = pro-bowler.
Tampa’s New Groove: After a failed season in 2013, Tampa Bay has revamped their uniforms and upgraded their roster. New coach, new coordinator, and let’s not forget the return of the Muscle Hamster, the New look Buccs should be a force in the NFC south.
