Talkin’ Football: The Offseason, Part 1

It’s only been a week and a half since the end of the NFL season; and already we have two teams being investigated, another team facing punishment, and two players that may or may not deserve to be playing in 2015. It’s about time we get back to Talkin’ Football.

Fresh Take Zone with Rahmad Hawkins

Welcome home to the Fresh Take Zone with yours truly Rahmad Hawkins.  Well … this is bitter sweet because it is the last game of the season but it is time for the Super Bowl.
We have the Patriots, the example of what a winning organization is and you have the Seahawks the new sheriff in town knocking on the door for their second consecutive title. This is football at its best. This is Ali vs Tyson in his prime.

I have respect for both teams and I believe that both will pull out all the stops. I believe that there will be a defining play made by a defensive player to seal the game. With that being said I am going with the Seattle. Go Seahawks!!!

Always remember to keep it fresh and stay blessed, signing off from the Fresh Take Zone with yours truly Rahmad Hawkins.

Talkin’ Football: The NFL Coaching Carousel Part 2

Rex Ryan is staying in New York, and the AFC East, as the new head coach of the Buffalo Bills. After the unofficial announcement Sunday morning, reports began to surface that Rex’s landing in Buffalo was moreso the fault of another NFL team.

Talkin’ Football: The NFL Coaching Carousel Part 1

Jets fire Rex Ryan, Bears fire Marc Trestman, and our hometown Falcons lets Mike Smith go. All justified. (Yep, we’re talkin’ football.)

Fresh Take Zone

Welcome to another week of the Fresh Take Zone with yours truly Rahmad Hawkins.

I want to take a step back from all of the news of the week and think about the NFL as a whole. I’m talking about legendary players, coaches, owner’s and stadiums. We have been blessed with many in all categories but if I asked you to build your all time list as far as favorites, which 5 players, 1 coach, 1 owner and 1 stadium would be on the list. Back at like we never left, I am coming to you live from the Fresh Take Zone with yours truly Rahmad Hawkins and it is November 13th which just happens to be my born day. What a coincidence that it is my birthday and my original home team is playing tonight, the Buffalo Bills, even though I am not a big fan I am still rooting for the home team. NFL 2014 Midseason Review

Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.

I’ve spent the last few years becoming somewhat bored by the NFL. I got tired of the same stars shining, the same teams winning, the same teams blowing expectations at the last second (Hi Romo.) and the one or two teams that would “shake up the league” then turn back into pumpkins the following season.

This season changed that. Seemingly, nothing that I thought I knew about the NFL was true. We started out seeing our league portrayed as the National Felons League. Both my Superbowl teams started 1-3. And the Dallas Cowboys were the best team in football. THE DALLAS COWBOYS?!?! Continue reading NFL 2014 Midseason Review

The Fresh Take Zone with Rahmad Hawkins

Welcome to the Fresh Take Zone

Today, Thursday October 23rd, it seems like the season just began and yet the weeks in the NFL are flying by. As we embark on another Halloween coming up next week I thought that I would touch on some weird but scary topics in the NFL.

First, there is turmoil in the Seahawks locker room because, supposedly, the Super Bowl winning quarterback is Not Black Enough ??? When I heard this I was in disbelief. … How could a team that shows their superior quality on the field be in such disarray. Reportedly, Percy Harvin was the main culprit but he was recently sent to another team which shows me that anyone that affects the quarterbacks’ performance is expendable. I really hope that they can turn it around and get back to playing Seattle football. If I were a Seahawks fan, I would be a little nervous because this big mess is showing the world how unfocused the team is.

Scary topic number two is the Dallas Cowboys. …. I never thought I would see the day when the Cowboys are one of the top teams in the NFL with Tony Romo as the quarterback. As of now, yes, they are believing that this is their year, with so much failure in the past for the Cowboys maybe it is faith,  maybe it is overdue or maybe just maybe…the Cowboys will get in the playoffs, win their first game and then Tony turns into classic Romo.

Game of the Week:

Seattle Seahawks vs. Carolina Panthers

This is my game of the week for a few reasons,  Seattle is in distress internally and they need to get focused so they can stay on track moving forward. If the Seahawks drop another game there record goes down, they are going to start to lose confidence and the blame will spread like wildfire. Now,  for the Panthers it will do the exact opposite for Mr. Newton and his pack. A win for the Panthers could actually propel them to go on a win streak. If you were to ask me who needs this game more I would have to say Seattle because if they don’t win things could spiral out of control in the locker room quick.

Lastly, Peace and Love , signing off from the Fresh Take Zone where none of my writing is pre-written or planned out, I speak from my mind, heart and I speak for you; giving only organic content.

Fresh Take Zone with Rahmad Hawkins

Hello again and welcome back to another addition of the Fresh Take Zone with yours truly Rahmad Hawkins. This week I’m feeling many ways about some of my NFL teams that have been letting me down. When I think of the Falcons, the movie Space Jam comes to mind when Bill Murray looked at Bugs Bunny seriously and said “I don’t play defense”.

As a fan, this is the question I pose to you; “What will it take for the Falcons to be a clear contender or even a threat?” We have weapons on offense, not many on defense and suspect play calling. I believe in the city. I have faith in the players on offense and I pray for the defense.

Secondly, I believe that the New England Patriots and the New York Giants are monsters that are slowly awaking. Yes sir, Brady has had a rough start but one thing for sure that we know is that he can finish. On the other end, Eli is the forgotten Manning it feels at times by such an overshadow due to big brother. It is time for the Gmen to become dominant once again but it must start by running the ball.

The game of the week:

Obviously it is San Francisco vs the Denver Broncos. This is a highly anticipated game, a full feast with all the trimmings. I am looking forward to seeing not only the QB match up but the entirety of both teams. I am expecting a shoot out but the edge goes to San Francisco defense being just a bit better than the Broncos defense on Sunday is my prediction; even though I don’t normally bet against Peyton.

It is always a pleasure, signing out peace and love

Fresh Take Zone with Rahmad Hawkins

Hello again and welcome back to The Fresh Take Zone with yours truly Rahmad Hawkins. Here we go again , Life in the NFL is amazing;  someone once said that the SEC was better than the NFL and I laughed for many reasons but after watching the Niners and Chiefs game it was then when I thought of that person. Let me explain. . If the Niners  qb were representing the NFL and Chiefs qb were the SEC then the metaphor would be how this persons who made the statement was so overzealous about their opinion they failed to realize how each week in the NFL there is good football and memberable games as there was on Sunday when Alex Smith was so eager to be the hero and save the day but threw an interception.

This week’s game of the week is the New York football Giants vs the Phillidelphia Fly high Eagles. This is a heavyweight bout between two solid teams with respectable opponents on both sides of the ball. I am expecting a high intensity game but…..As the way that this season has been going I honestly don’t know who to pick so I am going with the home team, eagles pull through in a close but strong win.

I want to take out the time to say thank you to the Fresh Take Sports family for continuing to allow me to express myself each week. Until next week…. keep it fresh.
